Chalkboard to Chromebook: The Use of Technology in the Classroom by Hallie - November 2025 Scholarship Essay

There’s a new phenomenon happening in classrooms around the world. The overtaking of technology, specifically phones, is now being pushed more and more into the curriculum. Now, a lot of parents and older people see this as a bad thing that is doing more harm than good, but as a student experiencing it, I would have opposed that way of thinking.

Technology is a wide term that ranges from the projector used to show students their assignments to the portable smart boxes that sit in our pockets. Technology has significantly accelerated the way of learning by creating an easier way of communication in classrooms. At the click of a button, students all over can get easy access to an important project they are working on or even get in touch with a teacher or a fellow classmate to clear up any discrepancies within the curriculum.

Technology has personally helped me with efficiently growing my work efficiently as a student while maintaining a job outside of school and being in a CTE class all at once. It has allowed me to experience the fullness that life has to offer while still allowing me to not only do well in, but also excel in my learning and overall high school experience.

Now yes, technology, specifically phones, can be distracting, but they also can be beneficial to the better understanding and learning of today's society. Technology is not going away any time soon; if anything, it is growing and becoming smarter. We as a society need to not to villainize technology by restricting its usage but show the youth of our population how to use this new advancement as a tool and not a distraction.

The usage of phones and technology in general has increasingly taken over and created more and more ease in the classroom. This has, in turn, helped turn the already stressful job of the teachers, who are cultivating the minds of the future generation by assigning and keeping the work and grades as organized as possible.

Technology has gotten smarter and is only going to get better. This being said, it is going to become more prevalent in day-to-day life in the future. Technology in the classroom makes communication and the learning process in classes much easier.
