Technology has completely changed the way that I learn. It’s made school more creative and connected to my everyday life. In my AP Environmental Science class we used online simulations to model how deforestation affects the carbon cycle. Being able to adjust variables and see results instantly helped me actually understand what I was learning by providing a visual representation and then applying my knowledge instead of just memorizing facts.
Technology has also helped me collaborate with my classmates in ways that weren’t possible before. We use shared Google Docs and Slides so we can work together and access information at our convenience. When we need a more “in person” way to collaborate in real time, apps like Zoom and Google Meet make that possible. These tools make it easier for us to collaborate on assignments, studying or projects without having to physically be together without sacrificing the quality of our work.
The best way that technology has impacted me is that even outside of school hours I have more control over my learning. If I’m sick and miss a day I can review slides or other materials on my own time. I can also email teachers for concerns or questions. There are also so many resources available from YouTube to Varsity Tutors where I can get help with subjects I might be struggling with. Technology has shown me that education isn’t limited to a classroom, but something that I can continue to explore wherever I am. It’s helped me become more independent & confident as a learner.
