Seeing Every Student by Emma - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I were running for student body president, the number one way I would positively impact my school is by making a place where everyone actually feels comfortable. I know what it feels like to walk into school and feel stressed, overlooked, or like you don't belong there. When I went to middle school, I went to a new school, and I didn't know anyone. I wish I had just stayed at my old school because everyone was looking at me and not making me feel welcome at all. Sometimes school feels like you don't belong, instead of a place to grow and become a better person.
I think the first thing I might create is a safe space where all students can share what they have going on, no matter what that is, without feeling judged. I think more of the other students should understand what it feels like or what it looks like when something is going on. Another thing is having more fun events, and having everyone together will help people get to know each other instead of making them feel left out. Maybe they could make an app or even just an anonymous text where you can send in things you wish your teacher would understand. For example, my school has the stop-it app, and you can be anonymous or have your name, and you can report if something happens that you do not want to be involved in, but needs to be known. Our school just needs to improve that app and make it fit everyone's needs.
I can’t fix everything, but I know I will always try my best to help others. I just want people to feel seen and also be supported, not left out or feel like they have no one to go to. I want students to actually enjoy school and learn,to feel safe with being themselves. Also having someone they know they can go to. If I can help even a couple people to feel that way I will know I help someone.
