Advice to a Past Dreamer by Destiny - July 2025 Scholarship Essay
Hello Destiny,
It’s me, I am your college self from the future. I am sure you have so many questions about who you are now and I’d like to offer you some advice if you want to continue to be me when you get older. Firstly, I’d like to tell you to be confident in yourself. Confidence is key in every aspect of your life. I know that you now struggle with your confidence from time to time, but I'm here to tell you that it is alright. Confidence doesn’t all come at once so start small, build that confidence and you will begin to see the many opportunities and successes granted to you. Secondly, I’d like to tell you that not everyone has your best interest in mind. I know what a sweet and sometimes naive girl you can be and how it can lead to you people pleasing others. Hear me when I say: you don’t have to change who you are to be accepted. The right people will accept you just for who you are. I know this because you make life long friendships with amazing people with beautiful souls just like you. Thirdly, I’ll tell you to stay focused and never stray from the goal. There are going to be obstacles and even people who come into your life and try to get you off task and even distract you, but you cannot let them. Your dreams are too big and beautiful not to be fulfilled. Lastly, I’d like to offer you this, make that mistake. It is ok to mess up sometimes. Messing up is what allows you to become greater. Just as a forest thrives after a fire, you will thrive after a mistake. It will not last forever, and just like always it will be ok. Destiny Marie Mitchell, the path that you are on now is such a powerful one. I am so proud of the person you are and the one you have yet to become.
With adoration,
You
