Aspirations & Motivations by Denea - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

My aspirations are to graduate magna cum laude and work to help the university with the DC and world community. I want to use my skills to be an asset to the university. Howard University is a prestigious college. When I leave, I would like to leave a legacy where others will try to match or compete. I want to learn about different cultures, people and the legislative process. I changed my major from psychology to Strategic Legal & Management Services because I truly want to be a lawyer. I know that my own experience and what my mother went through will make me a unique lawyer. Some people only know legal issues through reading books. I know because I and my family members have experienced racism, unjust people and those who are supposed to protect everyone protect only their families and those they know. That's not right and I want to help in the fight of somehow making it right.

I’m glad that I decided to work for Chick-fil-a. It has taught me how to conduct myself and be considerate of others. Those guidelines are the aspects that I believe will help me with the legislative process. Senators, Congressmen and Congresswomen along with other Government officials must care about their constituents.

I take pride in my work and work well under pressure. I believe that I could be an asset to Howard University and the legal field. I want to make our world a better place where everyone is treated fairly and justly (a model legislative world). I also want to make sure that black girls know that they can be lawyers, doctors, construction workers, etc. Last year I was able to vote for the first time. I’m going to make my vote count.
