Minor Setback, Major Comeback by Danielle - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

I am very excited about senior year. This year has just started, and I already have a feeling it's going to go well! I recently tore my ACL while playing basketball, and I will have to get surgery on it soon. This injury is just a minor setback for me, and I'm confident I will have a major comeback! I hope to earn all As this school year, and I also hope to have retained the valuable information I learned throughout the school year. Learning and not just memorizing information is significantly important to me. For example, when I start going through the recovery phase of my ACL tear, I want to grow 1 percent better every day. Yes, it will be challenging; however, I know I can do it, and I have a lovely support system that encourages me. My mother gave me some advice that helps me stay motivated for the upcoming school year, including the need to be observant, the importance of being discerning, the idea that a fool and their money are easily separated, and the value of talking to a multitude of people. Throughout this school year, I am committed to working hard and staying focused to reach my personal and academic goals. I plan to graduate from high school and continue my journey as a student-athlete by playing basketball at a Historically Black College or University. This goal is something I look forward to achieving every day.
