Aspirations, Motivations and License by CHIOMA - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

As I go to school for my last first day, I finally understand all the feelings I’d experience as a senior I heard from my upperclassmen just a few semesters ago. I feel the excitement, nervousness and anticipation. I’ve spent the last 3 years focusing on my grades and extracurriculars. Wondering things like “what would college acceptance committees like to see?” or “what can I do to stand out from my graduating class?”. And can’t lie, I still think like that from time to time. But this time around my aspirations isn’t just about test scores and college applications, I’ve shifted gears towards growth.

And just like my pending driver’s license and learning how to drive, I want to challenge myself to step out of my comfort zone. One of my biggest aspirations is to be an active participant in my school’s senior activities as a senior ambassador. I’ve never been apart of student council, but I want to take on a leadership role.

For me, this is more than just a pretty title to add to my college applications to catch the admission evaluators eye. It’s a way to give back to the community that has shaped me. I remember my freshman year clearly. I admired the cohort of 2023 because they made our school feel like a welcoming and fun place. Although their priority was to make their senior year as lively as possible, their energy and enthusiasm trickled down to the classes and students under them, including me! Their friendliness made a lasting impact on me, and I have carried that feeling with me ever since. Now, I have the opportunity to be that example for someone else.

What motives me most is that drive to leave a positive, lasting impact. One that will still be remembered even after I graduate. I want the underclassmen to see that leadership is about service, drive and showing up for others and yourself! I want to create memories with my classmates and help make senior year not only special for us but inspiring for the younger students who are watching.

This year is my chance to step up, to represent my class with pride. I know the school year will pass quickly, but if I can make a difference in even one person’s high school experience, then I will know I used my senior year well. I know the school year will pass quickly, but if I can make a difference in even one person’s high school experience, I’ll know I used my senior year well—and if I get my driver’s license too, I’ll be ready to drive off into the sunset, diploma in the passenger seat.
