Education Equity for All by Celeste - September 2025 Scholarship Essay

Over the next 10 years, I hope to see education become more equitable. At the moment, smaller schools often do not have access to the same variety of electives, dual credit opportunities, or Advanced Placement classes that larger schools provide. I would like to see more consistency in these opportunities so that every student, regardless of the size of their school, can explore their interests and challenge themselves academically. With access to such courses, students would be able to strengthen their skills and better prepare for their goals after graduation.

In addition to greater equity, I believe education should place more emphasis on real-world skills and offer more opportunities for hands-on and personalized learning. This type of instruction allows students to connect classroom lessons to meaningful, practical experiences and discover how their learning applies outside of school. Courses in financial literacy, communication, and leadership, for example, would provide lifelong value.

Being from a small school has many advantages, but the greatest disadvantage is the lack of elective options that could help prepare me for the career I would like to pursue. I often see friends in neighboring districts—who attend larger schools—share about their classes and projects that go beyond the traditional courses I take. Their experiences show me the importance of expanding these opportunities for all students. Over the next decade, I hope education evolves to ensure that every student, no matter where they attend school, has the same chance to explore their passions and reach their potential.
