The new strength and its success by Cayleeanne - January 2026 Scholarship Essay

A moment when I discovered a new strength was when I was enrolled into ENC 1101. This class was one of my very first college classes and it was extremely hard at the beginning. Although, this class was hard at the beginning it was only for a few reasons. I struggled with procrastination and using my time wisely. Over time, I overcame these weaknesses, and I was able to fully engage in class. I also started asking more questions in order to excel in ENC 1101. As the class ended, I saw that I could easily write creatively and efficiently. I had no problems writing my essays and I also had no problems writing enough in my essays to meet my word count. I would write my essays in under a day and easily meet the maximum word count. My teacher helped me understand what was required of me in my essays and how to achieve that. We had to do multiple essays to show that we understood the writing styles and expectations required of us. We had to write essays where we had to explain a topic through a rhetorical appeal. I chose to do WWE based on Sonos.

Although I received an A on that paper, I did not fully meet expectations. After I talked with my teacher, she explained to me what I was missing and how to fix it. I also had to do a critical reflection essay and explain how much ENC 1101 helped me. Through this class, I discovered that I could write so much better with my teacher now than with any other teacher I have recently had. My ENC 1101 teacher helped all the students grow and mature as writers and researchers. She helped me learn that I really enjoy writing freely. My new strength is writing thanks to ENC 1101. I have grown to understand how I need to write, the tone, the mood, how to cite, and how to paraphrase. My teacher has allowed me to see what writing is truly about and how to be good. I went from barely getting a C on any essay to only receiving above a 90 on my essays. My ENC 1101 teacher has truly changed the way I write, and it is important that I thank her when I can. This is because without her truly caring and teaching me how to write better, that I can confidently write and apply for scholarships that will positively impact my future.
