Broken Bones by Brayden - January 2026 Scholarship Essay
Have you ever broken a bone? Sophomore year of high school I broke my right scaphoid and did not know until after my football season had ended. I had to get a bone graft to repair it threee days after Christmas. Being young and not able to lift while seeing all my friends get stronger was hard for me. I felt like I was getting left behind. I was unable to do anything with my hand for two months and this resulted in feelings of inadequacy and imprisonment. When I was finally cleared, I took full advantage of my freedom working harder than before. I had to rework on my mobility and overall strength. This road bump on my high school football journey made me realize that high school football won't last forever and that I needed to really appreciate the small amount of time I really had left of it. It also made me realize that I can get injured or slowed down, but as long as I keep pushing myself, I can achieve big things. The big things included becoming a full-fledged starter and team leader, as well as an All-State candidate for Indiana and All-Conference my senior year.
