One time I had to learn from feedback was through baseball. As a catcher, I receive a lot of feedback from my coaches because I have an important role on the field. At first, it was hard to hear that I needed to improve certain parts of my game. Sometimes I would feel like I was doing everything right, so hearing about my mistakes could be frustrating. However, I learned that feedback was not meant to put me down. It was meant to help me become a better player.
One thing my coaches often told me was that I needed to stay focused and not let one mistake affect the next play. As a catcher, mistakes can happen, whether it is a bad throw, missed pitch, or a play that does not go the way I wanted. I used to get frustrated with myself after making a mistake. My coaches helped me understand that I could not change what already happened. Instead, I needed to learn from it, stay focused, and be ready for the next play.
This feedback changed the way I approach learning and personal growth. I started to listen more carefully instead of getting upset when someone pointed out something I needed to improve. I began asking questions and working on the areas where I was struggling. I also realized that feedback does not always have to be positive to be helpful. Sometimes the advice that is hardest to hear is the advice that helps you grow the most.
I now try to use feedback in other parts of my life, including school, work, and my relationships with other people. Instead of seeing mistakes as failures, I see them as opportunities to improve. Baseball taught me that getting better does not happen overnight. It takes hard work, patience, and the ability to accept advice from others.
Learning how to accept feedback has helped me become more confident and responsible. I know I will continue to make mistakes in the future, but I also know that I can learn from them. I believe being willing to listen, improve, and keep working is one of the most important parts of becoming a better person.
