I never really liked science class that much when I was younger, but for some reason it always came naturally to me. Even though I usually did well, I never looked forward to going to science class because I thought it was just another subject I had to get through. As I got older, though, my opinion started to change. The classes became more interesting, especially when we began doing hands-on activities instead of only reading from a textbook or listening to lectures.

During my senior year, I decided to take a forensic science class. At first, I thought it would just be another science course, but I quickly realized it was very different. Instead of memorizing facts, we had to think like investigators and solve mock crime scenes. We were given small pieces of evidence and had to figure out what happened by using logic, observation, and critical thinking. Many times, we had to answer questions without having all the information we wanted. We had to make reasonable conclusions based on the evidence we had, just like real forensic scientists.

At first, this was difficult for me because I wanted to have all the answers before making a decision. However, as the year went on, I became more confident in my ability to analyze clues and explain my reasoning. I learned that solving problems is not always about finding one perfect answer. It is about carefully thinking through the information you have and making the best decision possible. By the end of the year, I was able to solve much more difficult cases with less evidence than I could at the beginning of the class. Seeing my progress gave me confidence in my abilities and showed me how much I had improved.

Forensic science also changed the way I felt about science as a whole. Instead of seeing it as just another school subject, I started to see how it could be applied to real-life situations. Because I enjoyed the class so much, I found myself putting more effort into studying, and my grades on tests and labs improved. In fact, I have even considered changing my college major to forensic science because I discovered a genuine interest in the field and realized it matches my strengths.

Looking back, I am grateful that I took science more seriously during my senior year. The class not only helped me develop stronger critical thinking and problem-solving skills, but it also changed my attitude toward learning. It taught me that thinking carefully, asking questions, and looking at problems from different angles are valuable skills that I will use throughout college, my future career, and everyday life.
