Growing as an Artist by Ayla - April 2026 Scholarship Essay

There are a couple skills I have relating to the art world: sculpting, painting, animation, etc. Out of all of them I would love to learn more about, improve, and master is drawing. I am going to college in order to get my bachelors degree in animation. In class, I will have the opportunity to master that aspect of art. But on my own time, I would love to develop my drawing skills. I see much room for improvement in many aspects. Some examples include hands(those are always difficult), coloring(to make the art more appealing), shading(I wish I could be more intense with it), and more.
I know as an artist there is no real “Mastery” of this skill, but if I were to be the cause of someone's inspiration to draw/create I would consider my goal accomplished. I also feel like developing my drawing skills would help me be more satisfied and/or proud of my work. Along with that, It will most likely help with my animation skill too. If improving my drawing skills can get me into the field I want to work in, then It will help me improve those other skills too, specifically painting as usually before painting a subject, I sketch them out. Overall I feel like if I were to develop upon my drawing skills I would grow in other aspects too.
