Imagine you are running for student body president. What is the number one way you hope to positively impact your school? by Austin - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I were running for student body president, the number one way I would hope to positively impact my school would be by improving communication between students and the school community. Many challenges begin when students feel unheard or confused about important information. As a result, open and respectful communication can create a school environment where everyone feels valued and included. For this reason, my main goal would be to help build a stronger and more connected community through better communication.
To begin with, I would focus on listening to students. Many students have useful ideas about how to make school life better, yet they often do not know where to share these ideas. Therefore, I would organize regular student meetings where anyone could express concerns or suggestions. These meetings would give students a comfortable space to speak. In addition, I would send out digital surveys to allow students who cannot attend meetings to still contribute their opinions.
Furthermore, it would be important to show students that their suggestions matter. A student government cannot earn trust unless it responds to the voices of the school. Because of this, I would create a monthly update that explains the main concerns raised by students and the actions being taken in response. Even when a suggestion cannot be used, providing a clear explanation shows respect and honesty. This kind of transparency strengthens the relationship between students and their leaders.
In addition, improved communication would help prevent small issues from turning into larger problems. For example, many students feel disconnected when school events do not reflect their interests. However, when students have opportunities to share their ideas early in the planning process, events can be more enjoyable and meaningful. When students see their interests represented, they become more involved and more proud of their school.
Moreover, clear communication helps students learn about helpful resources and opportunities. Many students are unaware of clubs, programs, and support services because the information is scattered or difficult to find. To solve this issue, I would help create a digital space where all important announcements are organized in one place. This would make it easier for students to explore new activities and stay informed.
In addition, strong communication can improve relationships between students and teachers. When teachers understand student concerns, they can adjust their approach and offer better support. When students know what teachers expect, they can approach their work with greater confidence. For this reason, I would encourage respectful conversations through student and teacher roundtable discussions that focus on cooperation rather than conflict.
Although improving communication may seem simple, it can create lasting benefits. A school that communicates well is a school where students feel safe sharing ideas, where problems are solved more quickly, and where everyone works together. This kind of environment builds trust, responsibility, and a sense of belonging.
In conclusion, if I were running for student body president, I would focus on improving communication because it supports every other positive change within the school. When students feel heard, the entire community becomes stronger. When teachers and administrators understand student needs, they can make better decisions. Communication is the foundation of a school where every student feels respected and included. By working to strengthen it, I would hope to make my school a more supportive and united place for everyone.
