Imagine you are running for student body president. What is the number one way you hope to positively impact your school? by Arturo - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I were running for student body president, the number one way I would hope to positively impact my school would be by strengthening the sense of community among students. A strong school community helps every student feel respected, valued, and included. When students feel connected to one another, they are more willing to participate, support each other, and work toward shared goals. I believe that creating an atmosphere of unity would lead to improvements in both academic performance and overall well being.
To begin with, I would focus on giving every student a chance to be heard. Many students feel as if their opinions do not matter or that their ideas will not make a difference. I remember a moment in my sophomore year when a student suggested an idea for improving lunchtime seating because many students felt isolated. Unfortunately, the idea was ignored because there was no place for students to share their concerns. This experience showed me how easily good ideas can be overlooked when students lack a voice. By establishing open meetings where students can express their concerns, suggestions, and experiences, I would help create a school environment where every voice feels important. As a result, more students would feel confident speaking up, and the school would better understand issues that affect our daily lives.
Furthermore, I would work to create more opportunities for students to form connections outside their usual circles. Activities such as service projects, cultural events, and group challenges can bring students together in meaningful ways. Through these shared experiences, students learn to understand different perspectives and develop empathy. This sense of unity can help reduce conflict and encourage a more supportive atmosphere throughout the school.
Additionally, I would strive to improve communication between students and teachers. Many students hesitate to speak with teachers because they feel intimidated or unsure of how to express their struggles. By encouraging mentorship programs and open conversations, I would help build stronger relationships based on trust and respect. In turn, students would feel more comfortable seeking help, which would support their academic and emotional growth.
In conclusion, strengthening the sense of community is the most important way I hope to positively impact my school. We can achieve this by listening to students, encouraging connections across different groups, and improving communication between students and teachers. A strong community helps every student grow, learn, and feel valued. I appreciate you taking the time to read this, and I believe that together we can build a school environment based on unity, respect, and cooperation.
