The Habit That Changed Everything by Angelique - February 2026 Scholarship Essay
One small habit that has profoundly shaped my academic and personal success is my daily practice of intentional learning. From a young age, I learned that knowledge grows through curiosity, consistency, and reflection, and I have carried that lesson with me throughout my education.
When I was four years old, my mother brought home a college-level biology textbook. While I could not understand the scientific terminology, I was fascinated by the diagrams of cells, organs, and bodily systems. That book sparked a lifelong curiosity and inspired a habit that continues today: I dedicate time every day to learning something beyond what is required in class. Whether it is reading about the human body, reviewing scientific concepts, or exploring new topics, I make learning a routine rather than an obligation.
This habit evolved into structured study practices. Each evening, I review my notes, summarize key concepts in my own words, and create questions to test my understanding. This routine has strengthened my comprehension and retention of complex subjects, particularly in biology, chemistry, and physics. It has also helped me maintain a strong academic record, including a weighted GPA of 4.6 and consistent recognition on the Principal’s Honor Roll.
Beyond academics, this habit has influenced my personal growth. Learning intentionally has taught me discipline, time management, and resilience. Balancing leadership roles, volunteer activities, and coursework requires careful organization, so I plan my week every Sunday and reflect on what I learned at the end of each day. These practices help me stay focused on my goals and adapt when challenges arise.
My commitment to learning has also guided my career aspirations. Enrolling in a pharmacy technician program has allowed me to connect classroom knowledge with real-world applications, reinforcing my desire to become a physician. By consistently seeking knowledge, I have developed not only academic strength but also a sense of purpose: to use science and medicine to serve others.
What began as a childhood fascination with a biology textbook has grown into a daily habit that shapes my identity. This routine reminds me that success is built through small, consistent actions. Each day I choose to learn, I move one step closer to my goal of becoming a doctor and making a meaningful impact in the lives of others.
