A Meaningful Moment by Angela - March 2026 Scholarship Essay
I remember a time where I helped someone that was meaningful to me, it might have been nothing to them, but to me it was everything. This moment had me figure out something about myself that I will continue to work on.
Firstly, the person I had helped was my father. Like I said, it may not have been meaningful to him but it was the complete opposite for me. One day, I had asked him for money because I needed to pay an initial fee of eighty dollars to buy my letterman jacket. He of course agreed and began searching his wallet, when he found out that he didn't have enough money in his wallet, he went straight to his savings. I had begun to feel bad, I've never liked to ask for money but if not my parents, who in the world would give me money so I can buy my necessities? He pulled out a one hundred dollar bill and gave it to me, just like that. I thanked him and as soon as I realized the poor man didn't have money on him, I gave him thirty dollars. He gladly took it, claiming that he needed money to buy lunch at work.
That moment was meaningful to me because something as small as giving my dad money so he can buy what he needed as well was what really pulled at my heart. This was meaningful to me because I was able to help out my dad, it was worth giving him my last thirty dollars because all he's ever done is give me what I wanted. And like I said, this may not be meaningful to him because it's a lousy thirty dollars, but this made me truly realize that as I grow older, once I get a job, I won't be stingy with money and will gladly help my parents out whenever they need.
In conclusion, the time when I helped my father out with something as small as thirty bucks, was truly meaningful to me because I was able to help him go through one more day with ease.
