What Changes I'd Like to See In Education In The Next 10 Years? by Anabelle - September 2025 Scholarship Essay
As I’ve been through school for over 10 years, there’s much that I have noticed as a student that would make it easier not only on the students but on the teachers as well, because at the end of the day we are all human and we don’t all operate the same. As time goes by I realize that classes that are supposed to help with your future or with your education ends up not being as useful to help with what students might have to deal with in the future as adults. Even as adults in college, there’s still not many classes that might be useful that aren’t as accessible or there just aren't as many. Of course the generic classes like History, Math, and English are essential for everyone’s education but classes that I have been in like Financial literacy and also health and wellness or mental health wellness classes aren’t as accessible. Thankfully I have been able to be in these classes, but I feel like these classes are essential as mental health has taken a huge decrease in recent years due to school and education, especially with the stress of not only classes but with tuition in college and university.
I would like to see in the next 10 years that the new generation of teachers start to advocate for themselves to get a better pay to compensate for the amount of work that they do in and outside of school hours. It makes it more enjoyable to see teachers teach the material they love, as that positive energy exudes, students can feel the positive energy and makes them like the class more, as a student I have seen those types of teachers and they end up being my favorites. These things can help to make education a healthier place, where teachers get the pay they deserve, and also it makes it easier for students to get access to classes or education that will not only be helpful for themselves as students, but as people as well. School is important and I’m so very grateful for the things I get to do and learn about due to school, but I’d like to see more classes like these that I only really got access to in late high school or only college. These things are just as important for students as regular classes as they get the skill sets of learning to do the hard things to get to where you want to be, but also skill sets that will help students feel closer to being more independent and supporting themselves while they encounter those hard times that require you to be mentally prepared for it all.
In my experience of dealing with anxiety and stress on the daily where it affects me physically, the ability to be in a class that helps go against credits, but is helpful for myself, has been the best decision, as these skills will help aid in helping me in the future and will help me with how I can react and respond in a calculated and calm way.
These changes could possibly cause the rise in students wanting to go to further their education, help them enjoy school more, and will help them come back for more learning, because everyone deserves to learn, and everybody deserves to take care of themselves properly too as well.
