Career Aspirations by Amaya - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

My career aspirations have always been scorned or looked down upon. In pursuing the career of acting and modeling, I really have to put my best foot forward in my learning skills and techniques to be the best educated I can in this field, especially with so much competition. Through my college education in New York, I hope to gain better ways of communicating and showcasing my skill set in an individual way so as to stick out from the rest of the competition. I will be majoring in drama, which to many seems illogical, but everyone has their image for where they will be in 10 years and I have mine too, not to be diminished by outside judgment. Through the acting classes that I will be taking it is my hope that they will focus on the individual consistencies that can differ your acting abilities from another’s. That way, in 10 years I will see myself living my dream as an accomplished actress, whether that be on Broadway or in the movies. My current acting classes have already given me the ability to step into the character I will be playing and tips on how to better my performances through facial expressions and key knowledge about what the audience is witnessing vs what you are witnessing. This advice has already been helpful in starting my modeling journey by showing what the director and audiences want to see to better handpick who will be selected in the different competitions taking place. My current goal of being an actress/model will spur me to use this knowledge gifted to me in future auditions or competitions so that I can make myself be shown in a more unique light so that I can be noticed outside of my competitors. By doing this I can further my career goals while also bettering myself of my craft through different practices.

Already I have tried the processes given to me by both instructor and peers about how to best my modeling/acting and have faced many rejections, causing me to feel let down and weary about the future for the next year, let alone in 10 years. However, in times that I feel alone or discouraged, it is good to know that I am not the only one to face constant rejections to get to their dreams, but instead use it as a motivator for the work that is due ahead of me. In prioritizing my goals and learning techniques, it will bring me one step closer to achieving my dreams so that in 10 years I can look back on how far I’ve come and smile proudly knowing that I have accomplished everything that I have ever dreamed of. This does not come without hard work, though. I will need to continue pursuing my education in college, even making sure to pick up knowledge about my minor of journalism as a back-up, so that I’m not taking steps backwards while trying to step forwards, but feel safe in knowing that I have a back-up plan while I continue to pursue my dreams. Not only this, but the college I am going to is in New York while I am from Georgia, which already gives me a handful of opportunities I would not have had if I had pursued my career from my hometown instead of branching out and going somewhere new. In going to college and pursuing my dreams I can help myself stay on the path of a good learning opportunity as I expand my education on my career choice and better myself as I search endlessly for chances to prove myself in doing what I love. As I continue to pursue my career I’ll make my name known and use the education given by the colleges as a necessary tool in furthering my way to my dream job. This will help me to be not only hardworking but independent by never giving up on my dreams but pushing through setbacks, earning me my dream job through tiresome commitment and causing me joy in knowing that my college education and my hardworking demeanor pushed me to where I am today.
