Challenges in Today’s Education System by Amari - September 2025 Scholarship Essay

Education is meant to be a pathway to opportunity, growth, and empowerment. But today, many students face challenges that make that path harder to walk. As someone who values learning and is working hard to pursue my goals, I’ve seen firsthand how these obstacles can affect not just academic success, but personal confidence and future potential.

One major challenge is inequality in access. Not every student has the same resources, some lack internet at home, others can’t afford school supplies, and many attends underfunded schools with outdated materials. This creates a gap where some students are set up to succeed, while others must fight just to keep up.
Another issue is the pressure to perform. Standardized testing and rigid grading systems often measure memorization more than understanding. Students are expected to fit into one mold, even though we all learn differently. This can lead to stress, burnout, and a loss of motivation especially for those who feel unseen or unsupported.

Mental health is also a growing concern. With rising expectations and personal challenges, many students struggle silently. Yet schools often lack the resources to provide proper emotional support. Education should nurture the whole person, not just the academic side.
Finally, there’s a disconnect between what we learn and what we need. Many students graduate without basic life skills like financial literacy, emotional intelligence, or career readiness. Education should prepare us for the real world not just for exams.

Despite these challenges, I believe change is possible. I’ve learned to advocate for myself, seek out resources, and stay focused on my goals. But I also know that not every student has the same support. That’s why I hope to be part of a generation that pushes for a more inclusive, and compassionate education system one that truly helps every student thrive.
