The One Piece of Advice I Would Give Myself by Ali - July 2025 Scholarship Essay
The best advice I would ever give to my past self is to read casually, at least one book a month. I genuinely enjoy reading now at 20 years old, but I have very little reading stamina. I read all sorts of books, from children’s fiction to religious books, and everything in between, but I can only read for what feels like 30 minutes at a time. I really enjoy reading, but after a half an hour I really want to pass out. When I was younger, I hated reading because I couldn’t find any good books, but when I was older (around a few years ago) I really got into it. I like how the more I read, the more perspectives I gain in life and how much quicker my brain moves. If I was able to do this at a younger age, then I would have benefited greatly. But instead, I chose to play videogames 24/7 and not read. I’m even at the point where if a topic interests me, I’ll read a textbook about it with excitement.
If I had a second choice, I would tell myself to tell my parents to invest in Bitcoin a million times over.
