The lesson of loving your self by alexis - October 2025 Scholarship Essay
As a child I’ve read numerous children books that have shaped me for who I am. Each one has affected me in some kind of way. But the one with the most impact was “Chrysanthemum”. This book taught me about the importance of self esteem and being able to appreciate what you have. It shows you should love the qualities of yourself and to not let the opinion of others get to you. It also shows that despite what others have to say to you, a name shouldn’t define who you are. Having important role models in your life really does make a difference. A mom who is there to tell you everything will be alright or a father to reassure you that you can overcome the comments of others. Having someone there to help with your self esteem can help so much. I really connect with this book because I’ve always felt the same about myself. Caring so much about what others think and letting them misguide me. People have always been judgmental in some kind of way. And words with the intention to bully someone leaves damaging impact especially to a child. To me the comments of people my age have always bothered me. But I get older and I realize self love and just being kind to yourself goes a long way in life! Teaching kids about individuality and self love brings them a whole new level of confidence. Which is needed these days heavily.
