One time I had to learn from feedback was through my involvement in 4-H. As I became more involved in my club and took on leadership responsibilities, I realized that being a good leader was not just about completing my own responsibilities. It was also about communicating clearly, staying organized, and helping other members feel included and confident.
I received feedback from a 4-H leader about ways I could improve how I organized activities and communicated with other members. At first, it was difficult to hear that there were things I could have done better. I had put a lot of effort into my responsibilities, so I sometimes thought that working hard meant I was already doing everything correctly. Instead of becoming discouraged, I decided to use the feedback as an opportunity to improve.
I started paying more attention to how I planned meetings, explained activities, and followed up on responsibilities. I began making lists, organizing information, and thinking ahead about what other members might need. I also became more comfortable asking questions and accepting suggestions instead of trying to figure everything out on my own.
This experience changed the way I approach learning. I learned that feedback is not necessarily criticism; it can be a tool that helps me become better. Mistakes and areas for improvement do not mean that I have failed. They show me where I have an opportunity to grow.
Since then, I have tried to listen carefully when someone gives me advice. Whether I am working on a 4-H project, leading an activity, or learning something new, I remind myself that I do not have to know everything immediately. I can learn from people with more experience and use their advice to improve.
Most importantly, this experience taught me to be more open-minded and willing to grow. I now see feedback as part of the learning process rather than something negative. It has helped me become a more organized, responsible, and confident leader, and I know those qualities will continue to help me as I take on new challenges in the future.
