Chemistry was the first subject that truly challenged the way I thought. Before taking the class, I was used to understanding new concepts fairly quickly. However, topics like balancing chemical equations and stoichiometry required more than memorization—they required patience, logical thinking, and consistent practice. At the same time, I was balancing sports, schoolwork, and other commitments, making it even more difficult to dedicate the time I needed to fully understand the material.

One of the biggest challenges was that my chemistry class was very quiet. Few students asked questions, and at first, I was hesitant to speak up because I worried my questions might seem obvious or "dumb." Eventually, I realized that staying silent was only preventing me from learning. I began asking my teacher for clarification whenever I was confused, even if I was the only one raising my hand. That decision changed my entire approach to learning.

Outside of class, I took responsibility for my own success. I watched YouTube tutorials from different teachers to hear concepts explained in new ways, completed extra practice problems, and worked through mistakes until I understood why my answers were wrong. Instead of becoming frustrated when I didn't understand something immediately, I learned to slow down, trust the process, and keep practicing.

By the end of the course, chemistry had become one of the subjects that strengthened my confidence the most. More importantly, it strengthened my critical thinking skills. I learned to analyze problems step by step, recognize patterns, and understand that complex problems are often solved by breaking them into smaller pieces.

Chemistry also taught me an important lesson that extends far beyond the classroom: growth requires humility. Asking questions is not a sign of weakness—it is a sign of determination to learn. That lesson has shaped how I approach academics and will continue to guide me in college. Whether I encounter challenging science courses or new experiences, I know that persistence, curiosity, and the courage to ask for help will allow me to continue growing and succeeding.
