What is a small habit or routine that has made a big difference in your academic or personal success? by Addison - February 2026 Scholarship Essay
For a long time, I underestimated how much small habits could shape my success. One routine that unexpectedly made a big difference in my academic and personal life was something very simple, consistently eating breakfast. While it may seem minor, this habit completely changed how I approached my mornings and, ultimately, my entire day.
Before I made breakfast a priority, my mornings felt rushed and unfocused. I often arrived at my early classes tired, distracted, and counting down the minutes until lunch. Once I began intentionally eating breakfast no matter how busy or hectic the morning was, I noticed an immediate shift. Having fuel in my body made me more alert, energized, and mentally present during my morning classes. Instead of struggling to concentrate, I was able to actively participate, take better notes, and truly engage with the material being taught.
What surprised me most was how this habit created a ripple effect throughout my day. Starting my morning feeling prepared and focused gave me momentum. When my first classes went well, I felt more confident tackling assignments, managing my time, and staying productive in the afternoon. Breakfast became more than just a meal, it became a signal to my mind and body that the day had begun with intention.
This small routine taught me an important lesson about success, progress does not always come from big, dramatic changes. Sometimes, it comes from consistently showing up for yourself in small ways.
