The Key to Success: Google Calendar! by Addison - February 2026 Scholarship Essay

A small habit that has made a significant difference in my academic and personal success in college has been keeping an updated Google Calendar. I have learned that time management is one of the most challenging and stressful parts of college, especially when juggling classes, studying, participating in clubs, sports, social time and work. My stress levels can build up during these commitments and activities, causing me to lose my focus.

However, my Google Calendar has been life changing. It blocks out the time for the tasks I need and want to complete each day, allowing me to give my full attention to the task at hand, knowing that all of my responsibilities have their own designated time. It also helps me avoid feeling overwhelmed by worrying about how I will get everything on my agenda done each day.

This is especially important due to a very heavy load of responsibilities as a freshman majoring in agriculture and my involvement in regenerative livestock research. My goal is to become a large-animal veterinarian and make a positive impact in the livestock industry.

Beyond my research responsibilities, I am actively involved in the daily care of cattle. I have administered vaccines, performed ultrasounds, collected rumen samples, and obtained DNA samples from our herd. These hands-on experiences have strengthened my appreciation for animal health and well-being and inspired me to pursue a career as a livestock veterinarian.

Without a Google calendar to keep me on track, college would quickly become overwhelming. However, I make the most of every minute of my day. Checking my schedule for what’s next reminds me not to waste time scrolling on my phone. It has proven to be a tool in both my academic and personal life, helping me stay organized and on time for all the different responsibilities that make up my college experience.
