Theatre Club by Addison - January 2026 Scholarship Essay

I discovered a new strength within myself when I was given the leadership position of Vice President of the theatre club at Cleveland High School as a Sophomore. I had never been given such a big responsibility before and it was an experience that helped me grow as a person. Leading small groups, collaborating with other theatre club leadership, and improving my scheduling and organizing skills were all areas of improvement.

During my time as an officer of theatre club I often led small groups, and sometimes the whole club, in group activities. One example of this that is prevalent is the time I led our club through an improv game named Bus stop. I had to use my public speaking skills to present and explain the game to our club members, as well as keeping all the students at a reasonable sound level and kept roughhousing to a minimum. This experience taught me how to utilize skills I had and hadn't yet used in a professional context.

Collaborating with leadership was one of the most enjoyable parts of being the vice president. I got to help plan meetings and events, and we wrote a play together that the club performed. Collaborating on play ideas and executing efficient writing by our set deadline were both very important to the writing process.

Scheduling every event and ensuring we weren't overlapping with other clubs or events in Cleveland High School was part of my responsibilities as a member of our leadership. I had to use organization and time management to meet deadlines and ensure our processes and information was all organized, especially when it came to money management.

Overall experiencing theatre club as a leader was one of the best experiences that really helped me grow professionally and as a person. I wouldn't be able to execute tasks quite as efficiently without these experiences to help me along the way.
