The Next Ten Years of Education by Abraham - September 2025 Scholarship Essay

When I think about education ten years from now, I hope it becomes more practical, more personal, and more accessible. As a college student studying Information Technology Management, I see how education has shaped my path and opened doors. At the same time, I also notice the gaps where students could be better prepared for real-world challenges.

The first change I hope to see is stronger connections between classrooms and careers. Too often, students graduate with knowledge but little sense of how to apply it. In my own journey, internships at the U.S. Department of State and Novo Nordisk gave me lessons I could never have learned from textbooks alone. Ten years from now, I want every student to have opportunities for hands-on experience as part of their education.

Second, I hope technology will be used to personalize learning. Just as businesses now use data to serve customers better, schools can use data to understand how each student learns. Instead of one-size-fits-all instruction, students could move at their own pace, focusing more on areas where they struggle and accelerating where they excel.

Finally, I hope education becomes more affordable and accessible. As a first-generation student from Paterson, I know that cost is often the biggest barrier. Ten years from now, I want to see a system where students from every background can afford to pursue their goals without the constant fear of debt.

If these changes happen, education will not just prepare people for jobs. It will prepare them for lives of purpose, resilience, and leadership.
