Time To Change Education For The Better by Abigail - September 2025 Scholarship Essay
Over the many generations the school system has changed a lot. Starting from the very beginning where there was no educational system leading to only men being allowed to obtain an education all the way up to now the 20th century. Everyone has their own personal hopes and dreams for the school system. Over the next decade, I hope education is able to see more technology changes using AI for more personalized learning ideas, a greater focus on lifelong skills, expansion of STEAM education, more learning models, and a continued emphasis on global citizenship and community. I hope physical learning spaces will become more flexible and adaptable so students and staff are comfortable in their area and there will be increased collaboration with parents and communities for the better of everyone. But most importantly I hope to see the financial side of education change in the next ten years.
In ten years I hope that even with these little changes and advancements that one big thing in particular will be changed. As years go on and the world begins to progress, so does the economy. When this is happening it becomes difficult to keep prices down, making school prices skyrocket. Not only in college for tuition or books but also at high schools for clubs and sports. Growing up in a military family has taught me diversity, dedication, and great work ethic but there is more behind being a part of a military family then most see. First, I am a military dependent, which may sound great. Great benefits, great travel, but what you don’t see is that it does not come easily. The constant long distance calls, missed birthdays, holidays and so much more but one of the biggest factors I had to understand and think about was the financial side of things. While being a part of a military family I am also part of a blended family. My parents separated and divorced prior to me turning 4. Although they have done a great job managing co-parenting on their end this still is very difficult as a child and student over the years. Both my biological dad and my step dad are in the military but with this has come with some sacrifices. I have been working since I was 14 years old, saving my money for my future but also for college and over these past 3 years the economy has changed so much. When thinking through numbers I am getting myself financially stable for college all by myself in hopes to walk about college debt free. I hope in the next decade the financial side of things can change drastically so students like me or even in different situations are able to obtain that college degree and truly get the education they want and deserve.
One of the most significant and impactful problems students face when trying to go to college is the rising cost of tuition and living expenses. This will often lead to extreme levels of student debt and financial stress. This financial pressure can hinder academic focus, require students to work long hours, and impact their ability to concentrate on their studies. These financial burdens often cause students to flunk their studies, drop out, or become highly stressed. I have high hopes that in the next decade that these financial burdens will start to decrease and the advancements will increase. For not only the sake of the educational system but also for the students, parents, and community around them. Education in the next ten years will change for the better in countless ways.
