How can a GRE tutor help you?

If you have your sights set on grad school, then one of the steps you may need to take is preparing for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The GRE is a widely accepted source for grad school admissions across the country, so you will want to go into the exam as prepared as you can be. This is where a private tutor comes in. Varsity Tutors can help you find an experienced Chicago, Illinois, GRE tutor, who can assist you in your test preparations. You can work with your tutor either online or in person, at a time and place that works best for you and fits into your busy schedule.

Whether you simply need some review on data interpretation concepts or you require a full lesson on quantitative comparisons, your private tutor can help. GRE tutors in Chicago can also help you sort through all the test prep and study resources that are out there. By doing this, you can weed out any information that you may not need to cover because you already have a full understanding of the topics. Going through a large amount of information at random can also be overwhelming, but your private tutor can help you organize subject information to study. Attempting to go over a full GRE prep book or practice exam on your own also poses its own issues. While you can pinpoint areas you struggle with by taking this route, you may not have access to adequate explanations to help you understand your particular concerns. Your tutor can explain any mistakes you may have made on a practice exam. They can also help you with your analytical writing. It would likely be pretty difficult to successfully critique your own essay in accordance with the standards of the exam scorers. However, your tutor can act as your personal scorer and timekeeper. They can also help you identify the areas where improvement is needed and provide writing techniques to assist you with your essay writing.

Session Summaries by GRE Tutors

Chicago, IL GRE tutoring
Today, the student had one piece of homework to finish. This homework required that he write the words a, I, come, here, and have, so we practiced writing the words on scratch paper and then did the final draft. He was unsure how to write "v", so we focused on writing this letter. He traced the lowercase letters and also used the V-tech computer to practice writing letters and a few words. The student completed a maze and a somewhat challenging cutting exercise. Next, he completed a Christmas tree trace and color exercise. He did a great job coloring, leaving very few spaces left uncolored. To finish the session, we played a game to practice spelling the words we had written earlier. The student had a lot of fun and did a good job spelling the words.

The student is making big strides in his aptitude for the exam math section. I'm really pleased with how things are going, I think mainly because he has been putting in so much time outside of tutoring. Today we went over statistics, probability, and rates as those topics pertain to the exam. The big topic remaining to be covered is charts and graphs, and then he should be ready for the test next Thursday!
