On 8-6 we worked on the responses for the student's book work. We finished those responses and talked about working on another book on Thursday. Today we worked on the other book. We discussed three responses and the student is going to work on the rest on her own. They are due on the first day of school so she will have them done by then. We also worked on vocabulary some and then ended the session working on some ACT reading practice.

Writing Tutoring review by Tiffany in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
The student and I discussed her goals for working with me and then reviewed the 3 essays for her college applications and started brainstorming, listing ideas with bullet points and constantly referring back to our prompts to make sure we were staying on target. We discussed that when we next meet she will have drafts of essays 1 and 2 to work on, and also that the 9 hours together will likely be spread out over the course of the semester, not prior to the semester.

Student 1: Today we took a quiz to really practice the use of commas and semicolons. After the quiz, I asked him to create sentences based on what we just learned. He was fun to work with. Student 2: Today we worked on brainstorming ideas for the upcoming 100 page paper she's going to have due in the new school year. In order to make the most of our time together, I asked her to write sentences about each topic she's interested in, while using commas and semicolons.

Writing Tutoring review by Emily in San Francisco-Bay Area, CA
Because we finished the curriculum for the week during our first session, the student and I focused mostly on printing lower case letters. She was able to practice the letters a, d, o, and g. We also played a game that helped her think about what letters certain words started with. The rule was to take turns coming up with as many words for a letter. If one person could not come up with a word, the other person earned a point. I thought this would be helpful in helping her with phonics and consonant sounds.
