Tutoring review by Kendra in Sun Prairie, WI
Today we started with the student's spelling homework. She breezed through it pretty quickly, and we had the rest of the time to practice her math. We did some review of decimals and fraction conversions. I gave her several different types of problems, and had her practice using different techniques. I believe she has finally mastered this topic, as she was working quickly and confidently to get the right answers. We then moved on to finding missing angles. This is the new topic they have started in class. She understands the questions, but just needed a bit of help to set up her equations. She definitely got more comfortable the more we practiced. I will bring some worksheets with a variety of angle problems next week so we can keep practicing.

Tutoring review by Ian in Sun Prairie, WI
This session, we worked on conversions some more, mainly time conversions. We talked mainly about how going from a smaller unit of time to a larger unit of time (e.g. seconds to days) will make the number a lot smaller which is pretty counter intuitive for most people. The student seemed to understand by the end that to go from a smaller unit to a larger unit we have to divide by the conversion factor (e.g. divide by 24 to go from number of hours to number of minutes) and multiply to go from a larger unit to a smaller one (this he seemed to understand already).
