I am a postgraduate of Swansea University in Wales, UK. I am currently a student at Loyola University in Chicago with an undeclared major in the field of psychology. I love to learn, and I enjoy helping others find their own love of learning while achieving their academic goals. I have worked with kindergartners, high school students, and many grades in between. I have tutored students in math, reading, spelling, writing, and science. Of these, my favorite has to be math, because I find it to be the most concrete and logical. However, I aspire to spend more time reading and discussing fiction, both professionally and casually. When I'm not reading or watching Netflix, I like hiking and exploring different parts of the city.
I am currently a first-year Master's student at the Yale School of Public Health. I received my Bachelor's in biology at UCLA. As a Californian, I enjoy sunny weather and eating avocados.
I'm now living in New York City pursuing a career in casting and producing theater. Although I have found my passion in the arts, I find great fulfillment tutoring math and science, because I think it's important for students to know they can succeed in these challenging subjects. I seek to develop an individual learning plan for each student, discovering the tools that will best help them succeed. My previous private tutoring clients have gone on to graduate at the top of their class. In addition, I am also an experienced SAT and ACT prep tutor.
I am a math enthusiast who is passionate about helping students gain confidence and achieve. I began tutoring other students in middle school and continued throughout high school. I believe all students have the potential to understand math, but they can be intimated or have trouble finding the learning method that works for them. With my extensive experience tutoring students of various age groups through different mediums, I have seen how my emphasis on building a strong foundation and understanding how concepts/formulas work, patience, and encouragement helped students see math in an approachable manner. I participated and scored well in various math competitions throughout high school. Additionally, I am experienced in high school standardized test preparation. I am also a native Mandarin speaker.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Chicago, where I received Bachelor of Arts degrees in English Literature and Linguistics. I have been able to pursue my passion for languages and literature in my career as well as my studies. I have taught English as a second language, critical reading, grammar, and academic and professional writing to students of diverse backgrounds and proficiency levels, including incoming university students, business professionals in South Korea, and fifth and sixth graders in south side Chicago. I am especially excited when I get to help students work on their writing skills, and the breakthroughs my students have had in learning to express their own unique voices and perspectives clearly and articulately are some of our favorite teaching moments.
I'm an undergrad student at Stanford University studying Computer Science and American Studies. I am passionate about teaching and mentorship, and find that the best way to learn more about a subject is to teach it.
I am a current Master's Student studying Philosophy with a wide range of academic interests. I graduated with General Honors from the University of Chicago in 2018 with degrees in Statistics and East Asian Languages and Civilizations. I enjoy helping students achieve their full potential and primarily tutor standardized tests and college prep. Outside of tutoring I spend my time reading and playing board games.
I am willing to address any issue with an open mind and I try to develop strategies that play to a student's strengths. I would like to think I am very approachable and personable, and I have had very positive experiences with many students in the past using this philosophy. Outside of academics, I love playing basketball and watching sports, as well as chilling with friends, listening to music, and keeping up with politics and current affairs.
I am passionate about teaching because I understand greatly a lot of the academic struggles and problems students may face through education, especially as a first generation college student. Currently I am studying for my medical doctorate degree (M.D.) at the Medical College of Wisconsin. I graduated UCLA with a Biology degree with Asian Languages minor in 2019, cum laude honors. Both during my undergrad and days since, I had a chance to tutor private clients in Southern California and work for a few exam prep companies. I enjoy tutoring math, sciences (chemistry, biology mainly), social sciences (history, politics), essay writing, and Japanese. I also help assist in studying for standardized exams (SAT, ACT, SAT Subject, AP, MCAT, PCAT, OAT)! My tutoring style will be very direct in trying to identify gaps in knowledge and working/practicing on those gaps. I like to be interactive and answer the students' questions directly. I strongly believe education is one path in which students may be able to reach their dreams and I will be your supporter along the way. In my free time, I enjoy playing the piano, practicing martial arts, and watching anime/playing games.

I'm a nerd, and helping other people realize that they have what it takes to do well in school and love what they're learning about makes my day. I graduated from Carthage College in 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theater Performance and Music. I am a graduate of the University of Delaware. I received my Bachelors of Mechanical Engineering degree and obtained minors in Mathematics, Economics, and Biomedical Engineering. Since graduation I've worked for a large diversified manufacturing company in one of their leadership rotational programs. Over the past 2 years I've moved from Hartford, CT to Charlotte, NC and currently reside in Milwaukee, WI. During this time I've been active in the local communities, volunteering up to 10 hours per week. Much of my volunteer work has been focused on helping adult learners in Math and English as they progressed towards obtaining their GED and also helping young learners in the same subjects. I am a strong believer in not only learning the material at hand, but also developing a study strategy that will ensure long term success, regardless of the subject.

I am well versed in all types of questions the students will be faced with on homework or exams. Also, in addition to my teaching experience at Purdue, I have been teaching a one week course in Shanghai yearly since 2008 to prepare Chinese Occupational Health and Safety professionals to take the Certified Industrial Hygienist exam and part of what I help them with are some of the tricks of the trade for successfully taking these types of exams. I am enthusiastic about finding what motivates my students! I am eager to build strong relationships with open communication, trust, and friendship. I believe that successful teaching and learning is best granted through a conversation: what excites you about this topic? How can you relate this topic to your own life? As an eccentric traveler, learner, and collector of oddities I am proud of the experience I bring to the table with my students.

Hello! My name is Hazel, and I'm a rising sophomore at Yale University majoring in Psychology while pursuing certificates in Spanish and Education Studies. I know firsthand that the college application process can feel confusing, overwhelming, and stressful, and I'm here to help make it more manageable. As a recent high school graduate and a Student Ambassador for Yale Admissions, I have an in-depth understanding of the admissions process and what makes an application stand out. Because I was in your shoes not long ago, I know how challenging it can be to tell your story in a way that feels both authentic and compelling. I've worked with students on brainstorming, drafting, and refining their college application essays, and students I've mentored have gone on to earn admission to universities including Yale, Harvard, Princeton, Northwestern, and many other highly selective schools. While every admissions decision depends on a variety of factors, my goal is always to help students present the strongest, most genuine version of themselves. Whether you need help brainstorming essay ideas, polishing your writing, devising extracurricular activities descriptions, building a college list, or preparing for an interview, I'm committed to providing personalized support every step of the way. I'd love to help you tell your story with confidence and create an application you're proud to submit.

I am excited about the opportunity to apply my skills and experience for Varsity Tutors. In addition to my Bachelor of Arts in Spanish, I also have six years of experience teaching Spanish to middle school students.
I am interested in making physics and math relatable to people who are not naturally adept at it. I have taken the SAT, the general GRE and the physics GRE subject tests.
I am a stickler for grammar but I have lots of fun ways to practice it. Games and pictures are an integral part in my teaching method.
I am a graduate student currently working on my PhD in Literature. While I love reading and writing, my favorite part of graduate school has been working as a teaching assistant and helping undergraduate students improve their reading and writing skills. I love discovering students' different interests and personalities and seeing how their own unique knowledges come out in their work. As a TA, I found that students' writing changed the most when we could work one-on-one in office hours -- those are the people who came back to me and thanked me for helping them improve and build on their skills so much. That's what I love about tutoring: it really affords the time and space for me to give personalized, individual attention and feedback.
