What's the price for my student to work with a private tutor in Boulder?

The price of working with an expert tutor in Boulder is dependent on several variables, including what material you or your student need to study, how often you want tutoring sessions, your location, and more. For example, tutoring for a middle school student who needs help with their Health homework may be a different hourly rate than tutoring for a college student studying for a midterm exam on the physiology of the circulatory system.

Similarly, you may be charged a different rate if you opt for a set session schedule than you would be with a more haphazard approach to scheduling.

The number of people you study with can also affect the price you pay. Studying in a one-on-one learning environment allows your instructor to design sessions around your unique needs. Alternatively, you can bring a group of your classmates together and split the cost of your instructor while you strive toward your academic goals. Both approaches offer numerous advantages, and Varsity Tutors provides supplementary group classes to enrich your learning plan even further.

Independent research suggests that working with a Boulder tutor is a worthwhile investment for students of all ages regardless of the specifics you choose. If you would like to learn more about what tutoring might cost you, please contact a friendly Educational Director online or by phone to discuss your needs in further detail.

Where can I get assistance in finding a private tutor in Boulder?

If you tried to find a private teacher in Boulder on your own, you would have to double-check that they possess the academic knowledge they claim, make sure that they suit your scheduling needs, and verify that they have the teaching and communication skills to effectively convey information to students like you. Does that sound like something you really want to do?

Simply tell us precisely what you are looking for in a tutor and we'll make it happen, removing all of the hassle from the process. If your child studies best by turning schoolwork into a game, we can set you up with an instructor who excels at creating educational games. If you have a hard time concentrating on academics, we'll find you a goal-oriented teacher who can ensure that you're always working toward a clearly-defined goal to stay motivated.

We'll find a Boulder tutor so you can continue to study from the comfort of your own home. Are there different styles of tutoring offered in Boulder?

The Varsity Tutors network of independent tutors includes more than 3,000 different specializations, so we can find a great tutor for virtually any topic a student might be studying. If the student in your life is learning about the Scientific Method at a local elementary school like Eisenhower Elementary School, we will find you a Boulder tutor who is passionate about encouraging students to ask questions about the world around them.

If you're taking advanced calculus at an institution such as the University of Colorado - Boulder, we'll refer you to an experienced tutor who can provide a step-by-step tutorial on how to tackle each problem.

Likewise, we can help you find the standardized test support you need to feel confident on exam day. Our network includes certified experts on all of the most popular exams, including the ACT, SAT, GMAT, LSAT, GRE, and more. We can even match you with an expert on a particular section of an exam if you like, such as the GMAT's Analytical Writing prompts. If you're pursuing a professional credential, we'll also find you support for hundreds of the most in-demand certifications available.

If you have decided to homeschool your children, a private teacher in Boulder can provide valuable assistance. Your family's tutor can review your lesson plans and provide constructive criticism to ensure your students get the most out of them. A tutor can also teach any concepts you're a little fuzzy on so you don't need to struggle through alone. Best of all, Varsity Tutors provides useful self-study resources through the Learning Lab: a collection of instructional videos and student assessments designed to help you identify and address your student's unique areas of opportunity.

Are the tutors in Boulder assessed for their qualifications?

While virtually anybody can call themselves a tutor in Boulder, Varsity Tutors uses an extensive screening process so that only the best instructors are included in our network. We actively verify every instructor's command of academic subjects and teaching techniques, so we'll find you somebody who knows how to help students reach for their full academic potential.

We also look for instructors who have a student-first personality, ensuring that you feel comfortable raising your hand whenever you have a question. Most importantly of all, we reject instructors who lack a clear passion for working with students.

Whether you're falling behind your peers at a local high school like Fairview High School or find the curriculum at Boulder High School too slow-paced to maintain your interest, a private tutor can provide invaluable academic support. A tutor can also teach important study skills that you or your student can use in every subsequent class you take. For instance, you can go over active reading techniques to help you remember more of what you read in your textbook. If you'd like to learn more about just how easy it can be to start working with a certified tutor in Boulder today, please contact Varsity Tutors online or by telephone to get started. Tutoring review by Katherine in Boulder, CO
The student and I met today because I will be out of town this Friday.  The session went well.  I introduced the course and homework formats to her.  We then did the introduction to critical reading looking at the three questions: purpose, central idea, and structure.  We spoke about the three different purposes: analysis, argument, and narrative.  We worked a lot on paraphrasing and having the right attitude toward the passages since that is something that she struggles with in general.  It went well.  We also talked about vocabulary study strategies.  She is very motivated right now even though she is pretty tired after school.

The student has a Calculus quiz tomorrow, so we spent tonight's session preparing for it. We began by reviewing some homework on finding derivatives numerically and analytically, after which I went over another problem set he had done on his own with only trivial mistakes. I concluded with a brief study drill consisting of freshly-created practice problems incorporating all of the concepts which will be on the quiz. The student performed flawlessly on this review, leading me to believe that he is sufficiently prepared for the quiz.

Tutoring review by Jessica in Boulder, CO
The student and I began today with some reading comprehension. This particular passage was taken from a practice test. She read the first half of the passage and I asked her several comprehension/inference/prediction questions. Then she read the remainder of the passage, we discussed it, and she answered some multiple-choice comprehension questions. She did a great job with this one! Then we moved on to a non-fiction reading passage, which was a bit more of a challenge for her, but after talking through some of the details she did a great job answering comprehension/extension questions. We spent the second half of the session on multiplication practice, including a timed test and some practice reciting facts aloud to help with memorization. She is making progress and will continue to do so with our continued practice!

To begin, we went over the practice questions from the ISEE manual.  He did very well on the algebraic concepts in the math section. We went through about 4 reading passages.  I explained how to prove his answers and how to identify the main purpose of the passage.  Then, we practiced the vocabulary section.  He was able to identify many of the stems and prefixes.  We also talked about identifying parts of the words that he had maybe heard before.  Lastly, we discussed the fill in the blank sentences.  He did very well at using the strategies we discussed on Monday.

The student's lowest area was critical reading, so we started out with sentence completions. Then, we discussed the first math section he had done previously. After that, we practiced reading passage strategies and then did another math section. The session went well. He was alert and processing information throughout. :-)

Tonight we spent time reviewing the student's French vocabulary. We also practiced the body parts again. The student can successfully point to the part when I ask "ou est le nez?" (where is the nose?). We spent some time playing a 'catch the ball counting game.' During the second half of the session, I guided him in writing numerals.  We worked on numbers 2 - 11.  He is improving in his identification of the number as well as writing the number and loves transferring back in forth between saying the number in French then English, English then French.  For example, he says trois, that's three in English.
