I am an undergraduate earning my Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Washington. I have already earned my Associate's of Arts with honors through the running start program, and graduated high school as a Valedictorian. I have worked with Disability Resource Services in taking notes for students, and have also offered assistance with homework to other students. As an engineering student, I am able to use my experience to offer assistance with math. I am also able to tutor in chemistry since I have already completed the general chemistry series. I believe that education is extremely important in life, not only for the purpose of knowledge, but also for the determination and ambition that learning teaches us. Hi, I'm Laura! I graduated summa cum laude from Eastern Washington University with a bachelor's of science degree in mathematics and a minor in sociology. There, I earned the Frances B. Huston award, the most prestigious award given to graduating students, for excellence in academics, leadership, and community service. From there, I became a student at the University of Washington (UW), earning my Master of Science in Applied Mathematics and a position as a PhD student in the department. I was also awarded the Carl S. Pearson award for academic excellence in the Master's program. I have been working as a PhD student since then, with expertise in all types of math including algebra, calculus, linear algebra, and numerical analysis, among others. I also have years of experience coding in both python and matlab! I spent three years as an undergraduate teaching assistant, helping teach both high school and college level math classes. I also taught multiple sections of calculus at the University of Washington as a Master's student, and I have served as a teaching assistant throughout my time at UW. My favorite thing about these positions were the opportunities to work one-on-one with students, developing new approaches to help them understand difficult concepts. I love coming up with new examples or intuitive ways of thinking through math problems. I think everybody can learn math, and I love helping students of all ages and backgrounds achieve their mathematical goals! I am an interdisciplinary educator with an Ed.M. from the Harvard Graduate School of Education and a B.A. from Dartmouth College. My background is primarily in integrated arts learning and museum education and I specialize in visual arts, history and art history, and object-based learning. In all subjects, I take a creative, inquiry-based and learner-centered approach, designing opportunities for each unique individual to meet their learning goals.
I'm not tutoring or buried in my textbooks, you will either find me rock climbing at the Triangle Rock Club, playing Ultimate Frisbee, working on my car, or enjoying the great outdoors (beaches, mountains, forests--you name it, I love it). I am a recent graduate from a masters program in biostatistics at Columbia University. I received my Bachelor of Arts in biological sciences, with a focus in neurobiology at Northwestern University. In August, I will be starting a doctoral program in biostatistics at NYU. I was a teaching assistant at Columbia University in my department and also have tutored graduate students and undergraduates privately as well. I am a rising sophomore at Harvard College and am about to declare as a Mechanical Engineering concentrator, working towards a Bachelor of Science degree. I've always enjoyed sharing my knowledge with my peers and those around me and have done so in both formal and informal settings. I've been a tutor for both Math and Spanish programs in high school and enjoyed the strides I made with students. I am willing to tutor any subject I have a background in, but am strong in mathematics, the sciences, Spanish, history, writing, and ACT prep. I enjoy teaching mathematics most due to the joy I can see in children once they master a topic and can answer even pointed questions meant to stump them, and maybe even put their knowledge to real world use.
