Hi, I'm Kelly! I recently graduated from my master's degree in Psychology from New York University, and I'm looking forward to starting my doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology at LIU-Brooklyn this Fall. I also completed my undergraduate degree at NYU where I graduated magna cum laude with an interdisciplinary degree in Global Liberal Studies and minors in Psychology and French. I am a published writer with experience crafting journalistic pieces, blog posts, literary essays, thesis projects, research study articles, resumes, professional cover letters and personal statements for applications. I aspire to give my students this same motivation and support as a tutor. Writing can be one of the most difficult academic areas for students across all ages, whether it be learning how to write one's first five paragraph essay, crafting a personal statement for college applications or mastering a subject area in a college level thesis. I hope to give my students the skills to clearly and effectively communicate their unique ideas and perspectives in their writing. I started tutoring my fellow classmates as a peer tutor in high school for students who needed extra support in writing, study skills and reading comprehension. In college, I tutored elementary school children in English as a first and second language, and I was often a go to proofreader for my classmates while they wrote their first college essays. I continue to enjoy helping my peers in higher education and younger students K-12 master their writing, reading and communication skills. I also enjoy tutoring fellow Psychology students whether they need test prep for the Psychology GRE or a class exam, proofreading for a research essay or a refresher on core Psychology concepts and terms. Some of my qualifications are a score in the 91st percentile on the Psychology GRE test and a 4.0 GPA during my master's program at NYU.My professional writing and editing experience started in journalism when I was a correspondent for my local newspaper in California. I continued to write articles for young adult career blogs during my undergraduate degree at NYU, and I had a chapter of my undergraduate thesis published in Columbia University's narrative medicine journal. I am currently working on publishing my master's thesis. I scored in the 88 percentile on the verbal (reading and writing) portion of my GRE exam and received a perfect score (12/12) on my SAT essay and a score in the 98th percentile on my GRE analytical writing essay.
