About Me

I have a very diverse background experience in tutoring. It started while attending high school in my home town of Dar-Es-Salaam, Tanzania. I tutored my classmates and assisted the teacher in conducting mathematics lessons. It was in performing these actions at such an early age that I attribute my love for teaching. I soon began developing a theoretical approach to teaching mathematics, which involves engaging the student in the concepts of the mathematical problems in order to broaden their ability to assess mathematical problems. My tutoring/coaching continued through my Bachelors Degree (with Honors) in Civil Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, India and also during my Masters Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the Center for Environmental Planning and Technology University, India. I am a registered Professional Engineer (PE) in North Carolina. I have over 40 years of coaching/tutoring experience in Tanzania, India and the United States, and specialize in Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Pre-calculus, and Calculus. I can also help students with Physics and Chemistry up to a high-school level. I prefer to tutor one-on-one. My methodology involves first identifying the depth of knowledge that a student possesses and subsequently building a tutoring plan best suited to increase it. My goal is to help the student understand a problem by using different solution techniques, example problems, and by making sure that they have a clear understanding of concepts and are able to solve similar problems. I love passing my knowledge on to others, as I have for over 40 years. In my spare time, I play with numbers and have an invested interest in math games and magic tricks. I played soccer in my youth in Tanzania and enjoy watching World Cup and other soccer matches on TV.
