I am a Dallas native who recently graduated with academic distinction from The University of Oklahoma with a Bachelors of Science in Biology. As an undergraduate I excelled in science courses such as Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biology, Microbiology and Physics among others.During my time in college I tutored different subjects such as Chemistry, Organic Chemistry and Biology. While tutoring I realized that all students learn differently and it is the job of the tutor to find out which approach works best for the student and then utilize these strategies during the learning process. While tutoring I look to engage my students in the learning process by presenting subjects as relevant and interesting which goes a long way in decreasing the perceived difficulty of a course.In my free time I love spending time outdoors as well as playing basketball with friends.

I am a graduate of The University of Texas where I received my PhD in the Humanities with a focus on History and Literature. In addition to my extensive experience in the classroom, I have also raised a child with learning differences so I am keenly aware that everyone learns at their own speed and in their own way. There are no quick fixes and the student must be a party to their own success. I firmly believe that with organization, a good work ethic, and the proper learning environment, all students can do well in school. However, the most important ingredient is self-confidence, which is only achieved through accomplishing target goals. Below is a quick timeline and outline of my subject and teaching experience as well as my teaching philosophy.In 2011 I was awarded a undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Texas A&M University. I had pursed Biomedical Engineering out of my love from mathematics and the science and their fusion together. This degree required I learn Math, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Physiology and various applied Engineering courses that required an understanding of how these fields worked and could be contextualized together. While an undergraduate student I became a Michal E. DeBakey Scholar and worked for a lab that was mathematically modeling the cardiovascular system. I was put in charge of leading my own research team, which required me to teach and aid other students. I began to realize that while I loved science I also greatly loved teaching and seeing fellow students overcome their fear of any subject.This lead me to teaching high school Biology through the Texas Teaching Fellows program at Stony Point High School in Round Rock, TX. I saw a lot of my at-risk and even pre-AP students struggling with phobias of science or math. It was truly rewarding to find what it would take to see that student achieve. This experience confirmed my love teaching and helping any student overcome their fear of a subject material. It also helped me realize how much I missed music, which had always been a passion of mine.These experiences lead me to the University of Texas at Arlington where I am currently pursing a second undergraduate degree in Music Composition and Music Education.I am passionate about learning and teaching. I believe that every student is able and can over come any learned helplessness or fear of a subject if it is broken down and explained in manner specific to that students??? learning and communication style. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education in 1994 (I was a violin major). Several years down the road in 2007, I decided to go through the Master's program offered by PISD at the time, and I graduated with a master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction.My philosophy of teaching is to value the commitment of being an educator in all its glory. While my students may not remember their parts of speech, they will; however, remember how I made them feel in my classroom. Thus, one of my primary objectives at the beginning of each school year is to build relationships with both my parents and my students, because students don't learn from teachers they don't like!

I have over 2 years of experience tutoring college level Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Differential Equations for UT Dallas' Peer Tutoring Program, which is a drop-in one-on-one tutoring service offered by UT Dallas to all its students. I also have around a year's worth of experience tutoring privately for a variety of subjects including Algebra, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, SAT Math, and other standardized test math sections.
