Curious Jorge by Zury - October 2025 Scholarship Essay

Curious George is a little monkey who loves to explore and learn new things. His curiosity often gets him into trouble, like when he touches or climbs things he shouldn’t. But through his adventures, George shows that it’s okay to make mistakes, as long as you try to fix them. George also teaches the importance of listening to guidance. His friend, the Man with the Yellow Hat, helps him when he gets into tricky situations, showing that asking for help and learning from others is important. Since I was little, I remember how my mom used to read this book to me, and I loved it. I felt connected to George because I was a very mischievous child. Now that I have grown up, the things I do and the decisions I make often remind me of him. I am very outgoing, I love meeting new people, making new friends, trying new things, and just going with the flow. But I have learned the hard way that sometimes this can lead to problems. For example, I remember volunteering to be a youth leader at my church without fully understanding the responsibilities, and when things went wrong, I felt overwhelmed and unsure of what to do, just like George when he faces a mess he caused. But, like him, I try to figure out how to fix my mistakes, take responsibility, and learn from them. George also inspires me to keep trying, even when I feel scared or stuck. Just like George, I also have to learn to solve my mistakes. For example, when he makes a mess with paint, he finds ways to clean up and fix the problem. Many times, I make decisions without thinking about the consequences, and when they arrive, I feel stuck and scared, just like George. But that doesn’t stop me. I try to find ways to fix my problems and take responsibility for what I’ve caused. In conclusion, Curious George is more than a fun story. His adventures reflect my own experiences, teaching me about curiosity, problem-solving, and responsibility. George’s lessons have helped me embrace my adventurous and outgoing nature, while also reminding me to think ahead, learn from mistakes, and face challenges with confidence.
