Fujitsu Lifebook by Tuan - October 2026 Scholarship Essay

I have always been a person who enjoys buying new things. Even if money was a problem, the feeling of getting something always gives me a happy feeling that no other thing can really replicate. But a project that really sparked my interest was a project that I did by myself, because I wanted to see what it was like. I was using an old Fujitsu Lifebook laptop, it was a laptop that was about 20 years old. And it was older than I was, and so I wonder what it would feel like to use an ancient device for my everyday tasks. At first, it was frustrating to use such an old device that can barely run any modern software. But the more I use it, the more the limiting factor disappears. In a sense, it was even refreshing to use. With modern stuff I use things that's just not needed. Like add-on and stuff, but with that device it just does the job. And so, in short, I managed to get more work done in a shorter period of time then I would have with my newer desktop/laptops. And of course, it helped me get a better understanding of what technology really is. With the pass, I would just use my phone without a thought on how the device was made and how it can fit in such a small space and provide such power for everyday consumers. And that really same laptop is why I would love to try out older technology and try to see if they are usable to this day. It teaches me that just because something is new and shiny and is clearly better than the older generation. It doesn't mean it's for the right people. especially with all the ai stuff that we are facing, some people need to use ai for different things and others just don't have a need for it. In short, just curiosity on how it would feel to use an older laptop turned into a rabbit hole that showed me how to reuse different things, and that I don't always need the newest and latest things to satisfy myself.
