How Technology Has Transformed My Classroom Experience by Sonia - November 2025 Scholarship Essay
When I think about the classroom, I see more than four walls and desks. I see a dynamic space where learning happens anytime, anywhere. As a homeschooling mother of five and a student at the University of Phoenix pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, technology has been the bridge that connected my two roles. Technology has not only transformed how I learn, but how I teach, and through it I am building stronger connections with my children and my future students.
In my own student experience, online learning platforms, discussion boards, and virtual lectures have given me flexibility and freedom. I attend classes while my children work on their own assignments. I interact with professors and classmates via video and chat, which has strengthened my communication skills, digital literacy, and confidence. These opportunities have allowed me to manage my responsibilities as a mother and student and keep progressing toward my degree. Because of technology I am able to advance in my studies without being limited by location or schedule.
When I teach my children at home, technology becomes a tool for engagement and growth. We use interactive educational apps for math and reading, virtual field trips to explore geography, and video lessons to supplement hands-on activities. These tools have helped my children learn in ways that match their learning styles, and have shown me how powerful technology can be in making content accessible and interesting. My children see me using technology responsibly and creatively, and I believe they are developing a love for learning because of what they experience at home.
Technology has also reshaped how I view future classrooms. I plan to integrate educational technology in my teaching so students can collaborate globally, access diverse resources, and engage with multimedia content that enhances understanding. I believe that when students use technology in meaningful ways, they feel empowered and more connected to their learning. My training at university has introduced me to tools and strategies for differentiated digital instruction, blended learning, and digital citizenship, which align with how I use technology at home and how I will bring it into my future classroom.
Because of technology, I am becoming a better student and will become a more effective educator. It has allowed me to bridge my roles as mother and learner, and it has shown me what classrooms can become—interactive, inclusive, and empowered. I am grateful for the ways technology has helped me transcend limitations, connect with others, and create possibilities for both my children and future students.
