The True Natural Force by Rhianna - July 2026 Scholarship Essay
I recently faced an academic challenge in my AP Physics C Mechanics class. I remember checking my schedule the summer before my senior year, and my jaw dropped. To my surprise, I was placed in AP Physics C Mechanics. Physics has a reputation for being extremely difficult and asking former students about their experiences did not calm my nerves. Instead of feeling prepared, I heard horrible things about the class and immediately started thinking about transferring out of it. As much as I wanted to transfer, a small voice in my head told me to see it through. In the first week of class, we were learning about vectors and the relationships among position, velocity, and acceleration, and I was lost. I was starting to regret my decision, but the voice persisted, reminding me that I could take on a challenge. Despite my commitment to seeing the class through, I wasn’t understanding the content and my test scores reflected that. After receiving my Trimester 1 final grade (I didn’t even pass the multiple choice section), I knew something had to change if I wanted to succeed in the class. From that day forward, I spent every single study hall reviewing Physics with my teacher. Changing the way that I study has really helped me improve in the class, and I now feel more confident in Physics. After taking my Trimester 2 final, I can see that my hard work has paid off: I got a 4 on the multiple-choice and one of the highest scores on the free-response section. This experience has taught me a lot about myself and how much I can really handle when it comes to a challenge. I realize that I am much stronger than I once believed. Proving the fact that hard work really does pay off in the end.
