Looking Ahead by Kenna - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

This year I really want to get deeper into my major because I haven’t had much chance to experience it yet. I want to grow both as a student and as a person. So far I haven’t been involved in many school activities and I’m hoping to get more involved this year. Being physically on campus will help a lot since before I was only able to take classes online. I’ve saved up and now I’m able to attend my local university in person which I’m really excited about even though I’m a little nervous too. I want to push past my nerves and get out of my comfort zone. I’m looking forward to going to football games cheering with friends wearing all the school colors and joining in on traditions like chanting school songs. I tend to be shy so these kinds of experiences will really help me open up and grow. I do not know anyone in my major and have been nervous as I am a sophomore going into a program that most people start their freshman year. This means I will need to work extra hard in school as I am taking more credits than anyone else. This is expensive and I do not have a lot of time outside of class to work. I am hoping that I am able to get scholarships to help pay for some of the cost. Overall I’m motivated by the chance to fully live the college experience improve in my studies and become more confident socially. I’m ready for whatever this year brings and want to make the most of my time on campus.
