A New Strength by Jonah - January 2026 Scholarship Essay

I have had a few health challenges over the last few years during high school in particular, and have found that my new strength is increasing my faith and believing that everything will work out fine This will be a lifelong principle that I carry with me through college and years beyond as well.

For example, after having my braces on for over 3 years, I then learned that all 4 of my wisdom teeth needed to be removed since they were growing in sideways (wow!) I went through that procedure and recovered well. I also contracted COVID-19 and the flu on different occasions, and recovered from those (thank goodness!) My biggest test of strength was going through a procedure to remove an eye stye, which involved a very long needle (ouch!) That was my worst physical incident so far. These examples influenced my growth because despite each circumstance, I completed my schoolwork, kept in communication with teachers, and maintained my grades. Being physically ill impacts actual strength, yet I know that going forward, I will stay in faith for whatever comes my way. I used to worry more about things that may happen, but these examples help me remember that I am still able to carry out my life's purpose.
