Student Advocacy Hub by Hikmat - June 2026 Scholarship Essay

If I could design a project to improve my school community, I would create a Student Advocacy Hub. The purpose of this project would be to ensure that every student has access to the guidance and support needed to succeed, regardless of their background or prior knowledge of the educational system.

Throughout my education, I have learned that many opportunities are available to students, but not every student knows how to access them. Applying for scholarships, completing financial aid forms, selecting courses, preparing for college applications, and understanding school policies often require guidance that some students do not have. Students who are first generation college applicants, come from immigrant families, or lack strong support systems often face these challenges without knowing where to turn.

The Student Advocacy Hub would address this gap. The program would offer peer mentoring, academic tutoring, and workshops focused on practical topics. Students could receive help with scholarship searches, financial aid applications, college essays, recommendation requests, interview preparation, and time management. The hub would also provide information about mental health resources and academic support services already available through the school.

I would include family information sessions to help parents and guardians better understand the college process and other educational opportunities. Many families want to help but are unfamiliar with the systems their children are navigating. Providing clear information would allow them to become stronger sources of support.

I am passionate about this project because I understand the importance of self advocacy. I have often had to ask questions, seek clarification, and speak up for opportunities I wanted to pursue.
No student should miss an opportunity because they did not know which question to ask or who to ask for help. I want to help create a school community where students feel informed and confident enough to advocate for themselves and for others.
