Rolling to a Stop by Hannah - December 2025 Scholarship Essay
If I had the opportunity to excel as student body president at my school, I would be sure to mention my parking lot solution. At my school, there tends to be heavy traffic before and after school, as well as at lunch when students are allowed off campus. I would make movements to have a better parking lot system, such as allowing students to use more than the one main exit that leads students onto a busy major road, which often results in costly accidents or late arrival from place to place. If I had the chance to push to let students use the two other side exits, I would be building a safer and more productive environment. Unfortunately, it's not uncommon for a person to be late to school because of a backed-up parking lot. It would be my personal duty to ensure that students aren't marked down late for a lack of effort regarding the parking situation in a place where they're required to be for the majority of the week. I also often see this issue at lunch when students tend to be late returning to school because of the backed-up traffic. This is not an expensive act, seeing as it's cheaper than what students and staff currently pay when they crash or sit, waiting, in their cars using gas. This would be a simple yet easy fix for my school system to agree on, mainly because the solution is also beneficial for staff and their arrival home. I would be incredibly proud to make such an addition to my school.
