Class of 2026 we up next by Elijah - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

As I enter my senior year of high school, I’m filled with both excitement and a sense of responsibility. This year represents the final chapter of one part of my life and the beginning of another. My main aspirations for the upcoming school year are to finish strong academically, prepare for college, and leave a positive impact on my school community. What motivates me most is my dream of attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), my passion for creating a better future for myself, and the support of my family.

High school went by so fast; I remember when I first walked into Cass Technical High School. This school by far was the largest school I have ever attended. I’m both excited and nervous. I’ve met some amazing friends and cool teachers. My goal is to maintain strong grades and continue challenging myself. I want to finish high school knowing I gave my best effort. Senior year comes with many distractions, but I’m committed to staying focused. I plan to manage my time wisely, complete all assignments, and make sure I’m fully prepared for life after graduation. Applying to college, especially to HBCUs, will be a big part of this year. I’m excited to write my college essays, apply for scholarships, and take steps toward making my dream a reality.
I never knew I wanted to attend an HBCU, until I went on my first college tour. Being a part of a community, that values culture, history, and excellence is importance to me. I found that when I went to Morehouse College. Morehouse College have a long legacy of educating Black leaders, scholars, and changemakers, and I want to be a part of that tradition. Being surrounded by people who understand and uplift each other is something I truly look forward to. That vision motivates me every day to push through challenges and stay focused.

Outside the classroom, I also want to make the most of my senior year by getting more involved in my school community. My mom made sure that giving back to our community was paramount. My sister and I started volunteering when we were 5 and 6 years old. Whether through leadership roles, clubs, or volunteering, I want to continue to give back and leave a positive mark before I graduate. I believe these experiences will not only strengthen my college applications but also help me grow as a person.
In conclusion, my aspirations for this school year are centered on academic success, college preparation, and personal growth. My dream of attending Morehouse College, along with my passion for building a strong future, motivates me to give this year my all. As I take on this final chapter of high school, I’m ready to face every challenge and embrace every opportunity that comes my way.

Thank you for your time and consideration for the Varsity Tours Scholarship.
