I discovered a new strength in myself as I have gotten older and learned more about what different occupations there are out there. I have spent time learning new skills and having new jobs.
As a college junior, I am working toward earning my degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant. As a way to help others achieve meaningful participation in their daily lives. At this stage in my education, my coursework has reinforced my passion for occupational therapy as a holistic, client-centered profession. I am learning how occupational therapy assistants support occupational therapists by implementing treatment plans, documenting progress, and adapting interventions to meet each client’s unique needs as well as my hands-on fieldwork. This experience has clarified my long-term academic and professional goals.
After completing my degree and gaining experience as an OTA, I plan to continue my education by pursuing a doctorate in Occupational Therapy. Earning a doctoral degree will allow me to expand my scope of practice, take on leadership roles, and contribute to evidence-based practice within the profession. I am particularly interested in advanced clinical decision-making, program development, and advocacy for individuals with disabilities. By progressing from OTA to an OTD, I look forward to pursuing research into the important parts of people’s lives.
