Against the Current by Eduardo - August 2025 Scholarship Essay

The aspirations I have for the upcoming school year are being prepared for what’s to come next, and my motivation is due to being the first in my family to ever think about this. Everyone in my family chose to go to the workforce after high school, calling college a scam and not worth the time. Since I was six years old, I knew I wanted to attend college because of the career I chose for myself: a trauma surgeon.

But as you can tell, being the first and the youngest out of my family wanting to attend a college university won't be easy. I'm fully aware of this, of course, and that is why my aspiration comes from being prepared for my future. Having no one to help or guide me on what to do for this next step in life is hard, but that just means I'll need to start using a lot more of my resources. Being the first is no excuse, so I can't let that stop me.

Videos and the internet have been really helping me so far, and I am grateful for that. That's also why my motivation lies in being the first—because I can't let these obstacles or fears block my opportunities in life. And it will also be nice to show my family that going to college is also an option, that I can make something out of myself from it. So I will do anything in my power to be the most prepared and ready to go to a college university.

From doing ACT practices, drafting multiple college essays, and even doing these scholarships, I am making sure I’m not behind or letting my laziness get the better of me. I know with my hard work and dedication, it will pay off one day. So what I can keep doing is making sure it stays like that—with consistency throughout this upcoming school year.
