Statistics by Cornelius - July 2026 Scholarship Essay

A subject that challenged me but ultimately strengthened my critical thinking skills was AP Statistics. I think this was the first class that really challenged me as a person and I was doing so bad that I was having thoughts about transferring classes, but I stuck it through and in the end I passed with in A. Math is usually my strongest subject because my mom and dad have been good at math all their lives and they passed that trait onto me, but this class challenged me in ways I couldn't imagine. During all 9 units my wonderful teacher Dr. Simpson made handed us every resource we needed. When we first got to the class, we immediately we hit with subjects we knew nothing about and frankly, quite hard to grasp and understand. Everything from experimenting and sampling distributions were complex concepts, but as the year went on I eventually caught on, taking various notes of formulas to remember and studying problems to further understand the work. Throughout the year, one thing that helped me understand the topics being taught were fun games that involved food and I know I love some food so that made everything so much better.
